To meet the energy demand of Nigeria, the European Union Project Officer, Energy, Godfrey Ogbemudia, has called on stakeholders to advocate for subsidy for Renewable Energy Projects, in Nigeria.
This was made known at the monthly Youth Dialogue, organised by the Young Journalists Forum, and the Embassy of Ecuador, in Abuja.
He noted that, “In 1979, Denmark implemented a subsidy equal to 30percent of wind turbine investment cost, this spurred the much investment and led to the initial deployment of 200-300 machines a year.”
According to him, Denmark has sustained that feat, for the past 40years, while urging the stakeholders in Nigeria to promote the implementation, of the subsidy in Nigeria, to promote growth in the sector and increase energy available for consumption.
He added that Nigeria has the potentials of powering all sectors with renewable energy.
Also speaking at the event, the Ambassador of Ecuador in Nigeria, Leopoldo, Rovayo Verdesoto, said energy is one of the main issues to be solved to put Nigeria up.
He added that it requires partnership between government and the private sector as government alone cannot do it.
He said Ecuador, generates more energy through wind but is also battling to check emissions, due to power and industrial activities.
He Urged journalists to always ensure that they make proper information available to the people to enhance knowledge in renewable energy.
The coordinator, Young Journalists Forum, Comrade Chukwuma Nzeh, said the essence was to raise issues around Renewable Energy, for Young Professionals to have a more robust engagement, on the use of Renewable energy as better alternatives for energy demands in the country.
