Tinubu will win 2023 presidential election, we’re lucky to have him, says Buhari

Nigeria President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday said Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate will win the 2023 election.

Buhari during an interview after his meeting with King Charles III at Buckingham Palace said APC is lucky to have Tinubu, former Lagos State governor as its presidential candidate ahead of the 2023 general elections.

“What are the chances of my party not winning the election? We are going to win the election,” Buhari said.

“Tinubu, the presidential candidate, a very well-known politician in the country, he was a two-term governor in Lagos State, the most resourceful state and the most visited state. So, I think the party was lucky to get him to be the candidate.”

Buhari said his meeting with King Charles was centred on strengthening Nigeria’s bilateral relationship with the United Kingdom.

The president said King Charles III sounded very interested in Nigeria during their meeting.

“He is interested very much in Nigeria, maybe because of Nigeria’s relationship with Britain for long, our economic strength, I think we are still of great attachment to them.”

Buhari said King Charles III “speaks very well of Nigeria and wants the relationship to continue and if possible improve”.

On the purpose of his visit to the revered monarch, Buhari said Nigeria is a large market and it is only wise for the business relationship between the two countries to be nurtured.

Buhari disclosed that the British monarch asked him whether he has a house in the United Kingdom.

“He (King Charles III) asked me whether I have a house here (in the UK), I said no,” Buhari said. “I live in Nigeria alone, the only house I have are those I have before I got into government and I am not very much interested in having houses all over the place. I feel much freer when I have nothing.”
