UN-POLAC Foundation Promotes Peace, Conflict Resolution through Sensitization Programme in Kwara

A two-day sensitization programme on alternative dispute resolution (ADR) was organized by the non-governmental organization (NGO), UN-POLAC Foundation yesterday, at the University of Ilorin in Kwara State, Nigeria.

The aim of the programme was to enhance the knowledge of lecturers and master students in the Department of Peace and Strategies Studies, with renowned scholars of Peace Studies serving as resource persons.

Dr. Abiola Adimula, an associate professor at the Centre for Peace and Strategies Studies at the University of Ilorin, praised UN-POLAC Foundation for their efforts in promoting peace and emphasized the importance of peace in society. In an interview with our correspondent she stated, “This programme has exposed our students to scholarship and practice in conflict management and resolution. They have acquired valuable knowledge that will enable them to effectively handle conflicts within their own communities and beyond.”

The programme, overseen by Reverend (Dr.) Reuben Idowu Ibitoye, the Kwara State Director of United Nations-POLAC, aimed to train and sensitize the University of Ilorin team of UN-POLAC. According to Reverend Ibitoye, the participants were trained on mediation, reconciliation, and crisis resolution, with a focus on understanding the root causes of conflicts and de-escalating them.

Both the lecturers and students who took part in the programme expressed their satisfaction with its thoroughness and effectiveness.

They expressed gratitude for the knowledge gained, which expanded their understanding of peace and strategies studies. They vowed to use their newly acquired skills to promote justice and peace in their respective communities.

By organizing this sensitization programme, UN-POLAC Foundation has demonstrated its commitment to fostering peace and conflict resolution in Nigeria.
