The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, on Tuesday, says a total number of 7,904 driver’s licenses are unclaimed in Oyo state.
Lack of follow up and lackadaisical attitudes on the part of the applicants have been attributed to the unexpected habit.
Oyo state Sector Commander of FRSC, Mrs. Cecilia Kike Alao disclosed this in Ibadan during a courtesy visit to the Oyo State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ.
Alao explained that the process for procuring the license is easy and that the commission does not have delay in its production noted that in most cases,applicants did not bother to check back after the stipulated 60 days processing period.
The FRSC sector commander also hinted that the commission is ready in line with its mandate of placing the country among 20 safest roads in the world saying strategies have been put in place to ensure safety on Nigerian road corridors during the yelutide and Nsew year festivities.
“we arenot interested in the fines, we are interested in the safety of lives on ourroads. we have had series of meetings with people that matters to fix the roads and they have started yielding.” she added
“We have established camp to concentrate on Iwo road inter-exchange for gridlock free and our men have started route lining to checkmate excessive speed”
“Use more of the media, befriend them, it’s not all about money but a robust working relationship”,the NUJ Chairman remarked.
Faniran also urged the sector commander to inaugurate special marshal unit for NUJ to further enhance its operations
