2019 Budget: Kwara Residents Berates Gov Ahmed On False Claim

Some residents of Kwara state have berated Governor AbdulFatah Ahmed for making false claim while presenting 2019 budget proposal at the State House of Assembly.

The residents living in Ilorin South local government (The constituency of Speaker, Dr. Ali Ahmad) accused the governor of listing some abandoned and deplorable roads as completed while laying the budget before the lawmakers on Thursday.

According to them, the Gaa-Akanbi – Agbabiaka road, Ilorin listed as completed is now in deplorable forcing motorists and other roads user to spend more time on the road while it’s a death trap during raining season.

They noted that the communities in the area and some volunteers are always on the road doing palliative works.

 The aggrieved residents challenged Kwara State government to provide details information like name of contractors, fund approved for the project,released amount, agreement with contractors among other.

Similarly, a youth group; Kwara Youth for Development has vowed to mobilise residents of the area for mass action, if government fails to mobilise contractor to site immediately or refund released fund to state’s account.

“We can’t continue to condone this government of deceit and falsehood. Kwara state government must be transparent and accountable to the citizenry”.

In his speech while presenting budget, the Governor claimed, “In the outgoing fiscal year, the state government recorded significant achievement in the construction, rehabilitation and maintenance of rural and urban roads. A total of sixteen road projects covering a total distance of 111.51 kilometres are at various stages of completion.”

He added that, Some of these roads include: Rehabilitation of Gaa-Akanbi– Agbabiaka road, Ilorin, Ilorin- South LGA; Construction of Egbejila–Asa Dam –Airport road, Ilorin West


LGA;  Construction of Arobadi Maigidaroad, Moro LGA;  Construction of IleshaBaruba-Gwanara road, Baruten LGA;  Construction of Share-Oke-Ode road (Section 1)Ifelodun LGA; Rehabilitation of Share-Oke-Ode road (section II) Ifelodun LGA; Rehabilitation of Offa-Ipe road, Oyun LGA; Construction of Ilala bridge,Irepodun LGA; and Construction of Osi-Obbo-Aiyegunle, Ekiti LGA.
