The Gombe State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has commended the Gombe State Government for its contributions towards enhancing journalism practice in the state, particularly the ongoing completion of the state NUJ Secretariat. This was part of the resolutions made during the congress meeting held on February 12, 2025, at the GMC Old Newsroom in Gombe, chaired by the Council Chairman, Faruk Mu’azu Gombe.

In a communiqué issued at the end of the congress, the union expressed gratitude to the administration of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for creating an enabling environment for journalists to operate freely without hindrances. The congress also praised the complete digitisation of Gombe Media Corporation’s (GMC) radio and television stations and commended the transformation witnessed across critical sectors in the state, including education, health, agriculture, security, environment, and road construction.

The union acknowledged the leadership of the Director-General of GMC, Malam Ibrahim Isa, for his efforts in installing state-of-the-art equipment that made the stations accessible via satellite.

The congress reiterated its loyalty and confidence in the leadership of Comrade Alhassan Yahya Abdullahi, who was recently elected as the NUJ National President at the 8th Triennial Delegates Conference in Owerri, Imo State. It also celebrated the emergence of the first NUJ National President from the Northeast region, an achievement it described as a source of pride for the union.

As part of its resolutions, the congress scheduled a grand reception to honor Comrade Alhassan Yahya Abdullahi. The event will take place on Saturday, February 15, 2025, in Gombe.

Furthermore, members were reminded of the importance of paying their checkoff dues and professional fees for the period between January and June 2025, urging all practicing journalists to treat the matter with the seriousness it deserves.

The communiqué was signed by the drafting committee, led by Williams Attah as Chairman, Abigail Kolo as Secretary, and Muhammad Rabi’u Jibrin as Member, with Shuaibu Umar serving as Secretary of the Gombe Council.

The union reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism and unity among journalists in the state.
