Gombe State First Lady, Hajiya Asma’u Mohammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has reiterated the present administration’s commitment to supporting women’s activities and empowerment in the state.
Represented by the Gombe State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Asma’u Mohammed Iganus, the First Lady made this known while speaking at the International Women’s Day celebration themed “Accelerate Action,” held at Hajiya Amina Inuwa Hall, Gombe.
Asma’u Iganus reaffirmed her commitment to advancing women’s development and empowerment. She also encouraged women to continue pushing boundaries, challenging stereotypes, and creating opportunities for themselves to succeed.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Gombe State House of Assembly Committee on Women Affairs, Edward Gabriel, commended women for their contributions and urged them to use proper channels to present their campaign for effective action.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Education, Professor Aishatu Umar Magari, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Women Affairs, Modi Shelfodi and the Project Coordinator of AGILE, Dr. Amina Haruna Abdul, emphasized the need for women to support one another to foster development.
During a paper presentation on International Women’s Day, Hajiya Halima Mahdi and Mrs. Hannatu Ahmed Yaro described the event as a global celebration of women’s economic, social, cultural, and political achievements and they called for equal opportunities for women and greater involvement in education, skill acquisition, and leadership.
Leaders of various organizations, including NAPTIP, FIDA, ANGO, NCWS, Human Rights groups, NOA, and the Police Gender Unit, assured their commitment to ending gender-based violence in the state.
