- Approves Online CEE Registration
The Kwara State Government has introduced a new education initiative tagged Commissioner-to-Classroom (C2C), aimed at promoting a safe and supportive learning environment for students in both public and private schools across the state.
This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, during the first quarter Inter-Ministerial Press Briefing organized by the Ministry of Communications and held at the Ministry of Finance conference room in Ilorin.
Dr. Olohungbebe also announced the approval of online registration for the Common Entrance Examination (CEE), as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to digitalize the education system.
Highlighting the successes of the KwaraLearn programme, the Commissioner noted that the initiative has transformed public education in the state from analog to digital, significantly enhancing teaching and learning. According to him, this has not only improved academic outcomes but also doubled student enrolment in public schools.
“KwaraLearn, in collaboration with the Ministry, recently trained about 1,800 teachers on digital literacy across the 16 Local Government Areas. Today, Kwara students can compete favorably with their counterparts globally,” he said.
On quality assurance, Dr. Olohungbebe confirmed that the state has adopted and commenced implementation of the National Education Quality Assurance Policy (NEQAP). Zonal Quality Assurance Officers have been deployed to monitor schools and ensure strict compliance with education policies.
He disclosed that the administration has carried out the construction and renovation of 35 schools and equipped laboratories across the three senatorial districts, stressing that only competent contractors were engaged, with projects closely supervised to completion.
The Commissioner also spoke extensively on the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE), revealing that 898 Junior and Senior Secondary Schools have been selected to benefit from infrastructure upgrades, WASH facilities, and the establishment of Grievance Redress Committees (GRC) for effective monitoring.
“Under AGILE, we have trained 70 Master Trainers who stepped down the training to 140 others, developed a life skills manual for adolescent girls, and trained Education Management Information System (EMIS) officials,” he added.
Dr. Olohungbebe further announced the engagement of a Financial Service Provider to facilitate Conditional Cash Transfers (CCT) to beneficiaries and the implementation of a Second Chance programme to support out-of-school girls and young women.
On gender-related initiatives, he noted that Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Service Providers have been mapped to offer referral services to survivors of sexual abuse and exploitation, with community and faith-based organisations actively involved in the awareness and implementation process.
Additionally, the Agency for Mass Education has launched adult and youth literacy programmes, vocational skills training, and a literacy-by-radio initiative broadcast on Midland FM 99.1, all aimed at eradicating illiteracy in the state.
