The leadership of the Guard Time Information (GTI) Human Rights Activists Nationwide has declared its full support for Naval Officer, Lieutenant A. M. Yerima, who is currently entangled in a dispute with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike, over a land-related issue.
At a meeting held on Wednesday, 12 October 2025, in Abuja, the group’s Chairman, Mr. Bibi Oduku, along with several legal practitioners, human rights advocates, journalists, and other stakeholders, reaffirmed their commitment to stand by Lieutenant Yerima, describing his actions as lawful and professional.
According to the group, findings revealed that Lieutenant Yerima was only carrying out his legitimate duties and, contrary to reports circulating in some quarters, did not at any time use offensive or disrespectful language toward the FCT Minister.
While commending the Minister of Defence, Mr. Mohammad Abubakar, for his steadfastness in protecting the rights of military personnel, GTI Human Rights Activists Nationwide urged the FCT Minister to exercise restraint and handle the matter with utmost discretion.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, the group advised Barrister Wike to engage directly with the Former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo (rtd), to ensure a peaceful and amicable resolution, rather than allowing the issue to degenerate into a public controversy.
The activists further cautioned members of the public and social media users against spreading inflammatory or misleading information that could heighten tensions. They emphasized that dialogue, due process, and mutual respect remain the most effective means of settling disputes in a democratic setting.
“Peaceful resolution and adherence to due process remain our preferred approach,” the statement concluded.
