Residents of Hammadukafi and Wuro Shi’e communities in Gombe metropolis have expressed delight over the ongoing gully erosion control project in their areas, describing it as a long-awaited intervention that is already addressing a major environmental challenge.
The communities, despite being located within the state capital, have for many years suffered inadequate access to critical infrastructure such as roads, healthcare facilities, schools, potable water, electricity, and security services.
According to residents, the erosion menace had posed serious threats to lives and property while also disrupting movement between different parts of the communities.
Speaking on the development, some residents, including Musa Abdullahi, Abubakar Bappah, Yusuf Muhammad Gado, Adamu Cindo, Muhammad Sani Cotch, and Abdullahi Musa, expressed gratitude to the government for initiating the project.
They said repeated appeals for intervention over the years had yielded little result, leaving many residents doubtful that a solution would ever come.
“We had almost lost hope after years of seeking government assistance, but this project has renewed our confidence,” one of the residents stated.
Also commenting, the Village Heads of Hammadukafi, Wuro Shi’e, and Barunde, Malam Usman Muhammad, Umar Abubakar, and Suleiman Muhammad Atiku, commended the government for responding to the needs of the affected communities.
The District Head of Bogo and Galadiman Gona, Alhaji Umar Baddi Galadima, described the project as a significant relief to residents and praised the government for addressing the longstanding environmental challenge.
While expressing appreciation, the traditional ruler appealed to the Gombe State Government to upgrade the Bogo Cottage Hospital and deploy additional healthcare personnel to enhance healthcare service delivery in the area.
The communities reaffirmed their support for the administration of Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya and pledged their continued cooperation with government efforts aimed at improving the welfare of citizens.
