Your Planned Lagos Performance is insensitive and insulting, TeamNigeria4Change Cautions Tyla

1 Mins read

TeamNigeria4Change has described planned Lagos performance by South African Singer, Tyla as insensitive and insulting.

South African Grammy-winning singer Tyla is scheduled to perform in Lagos, Nigeria on December 22, 2026, as part of her upcoming ‘A*POP’ World Tour.

However, the announcement has sparked heavy online debate and calls for a boycott from some social media users over past xenophobic tensions.

One of Nigeria’s leading social-political groups, TeamNigeria4Change stated that Tyla has been quiet as a celebrity and public figure in the face of the xenophobic attack in South Africa shows that she approves of the dastardly actions.

The President of TeamNigeria4Change, Otunba Bestman Nze-Jumbo described it as a total lack of empathy on the part of the show organizers to bring a South African artiste to perform in Nigeria at a time like this, especially when Nigerians were some of the most affected by the xenophobic attacks in the former apartheid enclave.

Bestman said for a country that sacrificed so much for South Africa to gain independence, it is most unfortunate that the country can treat Nigerians and other black African nations the way it is doing.

Recall that the federal government of Nigeria had to recently deploy aircraft’s to South Africa to move its citizens back home after they were threatened with deportation and given an ultimatum to leave their country by the South African government.
