The Gombe State Police Command has conducted a tree-planting exercise at the Command Headquarters in Gombe as part of activities marking the third day of its youth and community engagement programme.

The exercise was organised under the theme “Plant Peace, Grow Nigeria,” with the aim of promoting environmental sustainability, peace, community responsibility, and a safer future for residents.

The Command called on youths, stakeholders, community leaders, civil society organisations, media practitioners, and other relevant partners to participate actively in the exercise and support efforts towards building a safer, more peaceful, healthy, and secure Gombe State.

The initiative also highlighted the importance of collective responsibility in protecting the environment while strengthening cooperation between the police and members of the public.

Speaking to journalists, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, disclosed that more than 50 trees had been planted within the Command Headquarters and beyond.

DSP Buhari Abdullahi said the exercise would be sustained as part of efforts to combat desertification, protect the environment, and contribute to the development and wellbeing of the people.

He commended the maximum cooperation received from participants and stakeholders during the exercise, describing their support as important to the success of the initiative.

The PPRO also advised youths to be responsible and productive members of society, stressing that good character and positive contributions would prepare them to become responsible future leaders.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Gombe State Command, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustained community engagement, proactive intelligence-led policing, and stronger police-community partnerships.

He said the initiative was in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, towards strengthening police-community relations and promoting peace and security across the country.
