The Eleso of Iwaa in Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State, His Royal Highness Obafemi Abel Alade has condemned the criminal practice of illegal organ harvesting across the country.
Speaking with news men in Lokoja the traditional ruler who was the former private secretary to former deputy Governor, Chief Edward David Onoja said the disturbing records of organs harvesting is an assault on human dignity that deserves urgent attention and appropriate measures to curb the ugly incidences.
The Eleso of Iwaa said traditional institutions has added it voices to professionals cutting across all fields of human endeavors to curb the menace that is tarnishing the image of the country.
He appealed to medical practitioners to stick to ethics of their profession by not getting involved in situations that denigrate the sanctify of life.
Oba Obafemi Abel Alade said records available indicates that syndicate involved usual operate by targeting vulnerable children, offering of free ride, fake relationship among others.
He called for a stiffer penalty to perpetrators saying the seven years imprisonment and five million fine does not justify the value of lives lost and the trauma of families who found the bodies of their loved one dumped on the roads.
The traditional ruler appealed to Iwaa community and the entire nation to be vigilant and avoid unsolicited offer of help and employment that seems too good to be true.
He also called for the reignition of traditional value of communal living, report of suspicious cases and openness to friends and family about movements and transactions.
The Eleso of Iwaa equally appealed to government at all levels and security agencies to intensify efforts to fish out the criminal syndicate including compromising medical personnel.
Oba Obafemi Abel Alade also called on religious organisations and parents to create awareness in that dimensions and emphasized the sacredness of human life.:
