President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has granted a second term to Dr. Vincent Isegbe, the Director-General of the Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS). In an official statement released on the 7th of March, Chief Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, confirmed the reappointment, stating that Dr. Isegbe would continue serving in the same capacity for another five years.

The decision came after a period of assessment and evaluation, during which the NAQS showcased impressive performance. The agency’s efficiency and transparency were recognized when it ranked among the top three federal government agencies in the efficiency and transparency index by the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC).

President Tinubu expressed his expectations for Dr. Isegbe, noting that he should build upon the recent success and drive the NAQS to greater heights. The President’s decision speaks volumes about his confidence in the Director-General’s capabilities and his dedication to ensuring excellence within the agricultural sector.

Under Dr. Isegbe’s leadership, the NAQS has made significant strides in promoting the growth and development of Nigeria’s agricultural sector. The agency has played a crucial role in preventing the entry and spread of animal and plant diseases, protecting both consumers and producers.

Furthermore, the NAQS has implemented various initiatives to enhance trade facilitation and ensure compliance with international phytosanitary standards, enabling Nigerian agricultural products to access global markets.

Commenting on the reappointment, Dr. Isegbe expressed his gratitude to President Tinubu for the opportunity to further serve the nation. He pledged to continue working diligently, together with his team, to improve agricultural quarantine services in Nigeria. Dr. Isegbe emphasized the importance of maintaining an efficient and transparent system to facilitate trade, protect public health, and boost the country’s economy.

Industry stakeholders and agricultural experts have lauded the reappointment of Dr. Isegbe, recognizing it as a positive step towards ensuring continuity and stability within the NAQS. They commended his leadership skills and track record, which have led to increased productivity and enhanced agricultural practices in the nation.

As Nigeria strives to achieve self-sufficiency and reduce its dependence on food imports, the reappointment of Dr. Isegbe as the Director-General of the NAQS promises to bring about further advancements in the country’s agricultural sector. With his expertise and commitment to excellence, Dr. Isegbe is expected to implement progressive policies and initiatives that will contribute to the nation’s overall economic growth and development.
