U.S. Embassy in Nigeria to Close on February 17 for Presidents’ Day

The US Mission in Nigeria, which made the announcement in a post on its X page on Sunday, said the closure of the Embassy and the Consulate General is for observance of President’s Day.

The US Mission Nigeria has announced that it will shut down its Embassy in Abuja and Consulate General in Lagos on Monday.

The US Mission in Nigeria, which made the announcement in a post on its X page on Sunday, said the closure of the Embassy and the Consulate General is for observance of President’s Day.

According to the statement, the Embassy and the Consulate General will resume normal operations on Tuesday.

The statement read, “The U.S. Embassy in Abuja and Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Monday, February 17, 2025 in observance of Presidents’ Day.

“We will resume normal operations on Tuesday, February 18, 2025.”

Americans observe Presidents’ Day on the third Monday in February of every year.

The federal holiday is formally called “Washington’s Birthday” because initially this holiday was created to celebrate the birth of America’s first president George Washington, who was born on February 22, 1732.
