We are deeply shocked by the gruesome killing of Ammaye, a Nigerian citizen who was denied her right to due process and cruelly murdered by a mob. This incident once again highlights the growing culture of impunity surrounding mob violence in our country, especially when linked to alleged blasphemy. Such acts threaten peace, justice, and interfaith harmony in Nigeria
The Nigeria Interfaith Coalition for Freedom of Religion or Belief (NICFoRB) has strongly condemned the brutal mob killing of a female food vendor, Ammaye, in Kasuwan Garba, Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State, on Saturday, August 30, 2025, over allegations of blasphemy.
In a statement signed by its Coordinator, Felix Joseph Samari, NICFoRB described the incident as a “barbaric and inhumane act” that grossly violates fundamental human rights, including the right to life, freedom of religion or belief, and freedom of expression, as guaranteed by the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“We are deeply shocked by the gruesome killing of Ammaye, a Nigerian citizen who was denied her right to due process and cruelly murdered by a mob. NICFoRB expressed grave concern that security personnel who had taken Ammaye into custody were overpowered by an irate mob, underscoring what it called “the alarming weakness of law enforcement and the urgent need for stronger mechanisms to protect citizens.”
The coalition therefore called on the Federal Government of Nigeria, the Inspector General of Police, and security agencies to launch a full-scale investigation into the incident, arrest and prosecute all perpetrators, and ensure justice is served without delay.
Furthermore, NICFoRB urged government institutions at both federal and state levels to adopt proactive measures to prevent future occurrences by strengthening community policing and security response systems, reviewing policies that indirectly encourage vigilante justice, promoting citizens’ education on religious tolerance, non-violence, and peaceful coexistence and supporting interfaith dialogue and peacebuilding efforts at the grassroots.
“This is not merely a religious issue; it is a human rights crisis that strikes at the heart of our democracy and the sanctity of human life. The Nigerian State must demonstrate its commitment to justice by ensuring that the killers of Ammaye are brought to book, and that such heinous crimes do not happen again,

NICFoRB reaffirmed its commitment to defending Freedom of Religion or Belief (FoRB) in Nigeria and called on religious leaders, civil society, and the international community to join hands in advocating for justice, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence.
