1 Mins read

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Abuja Bula Ward of Gombe State has recorded a significant political boost following the defection of more than eighty members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the party.

The Gombe State Chairman of the ADC, Alhaji Nasiru Lawan Maigoro, announced this during a reception organised to formally welcome the defectors in Abuja Bula Ward.

Maigoro described the mass defection, led by Alhaji Mahmuda Kwamfulata, as a clear sign that the ADC is gaining increasing acceptance at the grassroots level. He stated that the party is working towards building a strong political structure across the eleven local government areas of the state.

He called on residents, particularly women and youths, to take advantage of the ongoing political mobilisation by registering for their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), stressing that voter registration remains the foundation of democratic participation.

The ADC chairman further disclosed that arrangements are ongoing for a comprehensive membership registration exercise across the state aimed at strengthening the party’s database and enhancing active participation in future political activities.

In his remarks, the party’s House of Representatives candidate in the 2023 general elections, Dr. Mahmud Abdullahi, urged the electorate to always consider integrity, competence and the fear of God when electing leaders. He encouraged the new members to remain steadfast and committed to the ideals of the party, assuring them of equal opportunities and inclusiveness in party affairs.

Also speaking, the State Treasurer of the ADC Youth Parliament, Babangida Hadi, and the party’s Media Coordinator, Emmanuel Ezekiel, described the ADC as a progressive party operating an open-door policy while reaffirmed the party’s commitment to internal democracy, youth participation and policies aimed at addressing socio-economic challenges facing the people.

The event featured the formal reception of the defectors and a renewed pledge by party leaders and supporters to work collectively towards strengthening the ADC ahead of future elections in Gombe State.
