The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has formally adopted the report of the Anambra Governorship Primary Election Committee, confirming Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu as the party’s flagbearer for the upcoming November 2025 gubernatorial election in the state.

The report, submitted by the Chairman of the Committee and Governor of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Otu, declared Ukachukwu winner of the primary election with a total of 1,455 votes.

During its weekly meeting on Wednesday, the NWC, led by APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, CON, endorsed the committee’s findings and presented Ukachukwu with the party’s Certificate of Return.

Dr. Ganduje commended Governor Otu and the primary election committee for conducting a transparent, free, and credible process. He urged all aspirants and party stakeholders in Anambra to rally behind Ukachukwu to ensure the APC secures victory in the November 8 election.

“The longstanding issue of disunity within our party in Anambra has been laid to rest. With this successful primary, we now have a united front,” Ganduje stated. “Prince Ukachukwu represents our golden hope of establishing APC governance in Anambra State.”

In his acceptance remarks, Prince Ukachukwu expressed gratitude to the party leadership and pledged to bring Anambra into mainstream national politics, promising to unlock greater federal benefits for the state.

Speaking to journalists, Ukachukwu dismissed concerns about the popularity of incumbent Governor Chukwuma Soludo, asserting that the governor’s previous victory was a product of coalition support, including his own influence within the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

“Governor Soludo didn’t win that election alone. He was backed by a coalition I was part of,” Ukachukwu said. “This is the first time he will face the people on his own merit, and we will see how popular he really is.”

He also questioned APGA’s reliance on federal backing despite claiming political self-sufficiency, saying: “If APGA is strong enough on its own, why are they lobbying for presidential support?”

Ukachukwu concluded by drawing parallels with past governors, noting that a single term in office is not unprecedented in Anambra’s political history.
