BTO Re-engineering Ondo State’s Future through Quality, Credible Representation

Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo fondly called BTO, is a Nigerian politician who is set to be inaugurated to serve a second term as a member of the House of Representatives representing Akoko North-East/North-West Federal Constituency of Ondo State.

Hon. Tunji-Ojo was born on June 26, 1980, in Akure, Ondo State. He attended St. John’s Anglican Primary School, Oyemekun, Akure, and later proceeded to Aquinas College, Akure, for his secondary education. He obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

Before joining politics, Hon. Tunji-Ojo worked in several organizations in various capacities. He worked as a Senior Accountant with Adejumo Okusaga & Co. Chartered Accountants, a firm of Chartered Accountants in Lagos, and later as a Senior Consultant with Phillips Consulting Limited. He also worked as the Head of Corporate Services with the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC).

In 2015, Hon. Tunji-Ojo joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) and contested for the Ondo State House of Assembly, representing Akoko North-East Constituency. He won the election and served as the Chairman, Committee on Public Accounts and Appropriation in the State House of Assembly.

In 2019, he contested for the House of Representatives seat representing Akoko North-East/North-West Federal Constituency and won. He currently serves as the Chairman, House Committee on Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

BTO is known for his philanthropic activities, especially in the areas of education and youth empowerment. He provides scholarship for indigent students who are from the 35 communities in Akoko North East/North West Federal Constituency.

Not only that, he boosts healthcare in Akoko with 12 Ambulances, multimillion naira hospital equipment as well as facilitated a training on conflict resolution for traditional rulers in the two council areas. No fewer than 19 traditional rulers from over twenty-five communities in the two local government areas of the constituency attended the training implemented through the Border Communities Development Agency, Abuja and held at Ikare Akoko.

At the National Assembly, one of the key areas that Hon. Ojo focused on during his first term was agriculture. He recognized that agriculture was a major driver of the economy in his constituency, and he was determined to support farmers and promote agricultural development in the region.

To this end, he sponsored several bills and motions aimed at improving the agricultural sector, including bills to provide funding for agricultural research and development, and to establish agricultural training centers in his constituency.

Hon. Ojo also prioritized education during his first term. He recognized the importance of education in developing the human capital of the nation, and he was committed to ensuring that the children of his constituency had access to quality education.

He worked closely with the government and other stakeholders to secure funding for the construction of new schools and the rehabilitation of existing ones. He also sponsored bills to improve the quality of education in Nigeria, including bills to promote vocational education and to increase funding for teacher training.

In addition to his work on agriculture and education, Hon. Ojo also focused on improving infrastructure in his constituency. He recognized that good roads, electricity, and other basic amenities were essential for economic development and the well-being of his constituents. He worked tirelessly to secure funding for the construction and rehabilitation of roads, bridges, and other infrastructure projects in the region.

Throughout his first term in office, Hon. Ojo remained committed to serving his constituents with integrity and dedication. He held regular town hall meetings and other engagement sessions to listen to the concerns of his constituents and to provide updates on his work in the House of Representatives.

He also remained accessible and responsive to the needs of his constituents, working tirelessly to ensure that their voices were heard and their needs were met.

In recognition of his outstanding stewardship, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji Ojo was re-elected for a second term in office in 2023. His first term in office was a testament to his commitment to the development of his constituency and the nation as a whole, and his constituents can look forward to even greater accomplishments in his second term.
