Crackdown on Sexual Abuse, Gombe Communities Strengthen Enforcement of GBV Laws

The Mai Kaltungo, Engineer Saleh Muhammadu, has vowed to enforce the full weight of the law on anyone found guilty of sexual abuse in Kaltungo and surrounding communities. The monarch made the declaration when the Commissioner for Women Affairs, representing the Gombe State First Lady, led an advocacy team to his palace to present the state’s Gender-Based Violence (GBV) law.

The Mai Kaltungo, Engineer Saleh Muhammadu, has vowed to enforce the full weight of the law on anyone found guilty of sexual abuse in Kaltungo and surrounding communities. The monarch made the declaration when the Commissioner for Women Affairs, representing the Gombe State First Lady, led an advocacy team to his palace to present the state’s Gender-Based Violence (GBV) law.

Speaking during the visit, Chairman of the House Committee on Women Affairs, Gabriel Galadima, and the Majority Leader of the Gombe State House of Assembly, Yerima Ladan Gaule, stressed that the state has established firm legal provisions to prosecute sexual offenders. They said the government remains committed to protecting vulnerable groups through strict enforcement of these laws.

While Mai Tangale Calls for Death Penalty for Rapists

In Billiri, the Mai Tangale, Alhaji Danladi Sanusi Maiyamba, called for the implementation of the death penalty for individuals convicted of rape. He made the call while receiving the delegation of the First Lady at the Tangale Palace.

The monarch commended the Gombe State Government for improving the welfare of citizens through developmental projects and urged authorities to apply stronger punitive measures to deter sexual crimes.

Leading the team, Commissioner for Women Affairs, Asma’u Mohammed Iganus, reiterated that the state has enacted laws specifically designed to curb rape and other forms of gender-based violence.

Then Shongom Committee on GBV was Inaugurated

The campaign team later proceeded to Shongom Local Government Area, where a committee on gender based violence was inaugurated and the GBV law formally presented to local authorities.

Chairperson of Shongom LGA, Fatima Binta Bello, received the delegation and pledged full support for the First Lady’s campaign against sexual abuse.

In her message delivered through the Commissioner, the First Lady of Gombe State expressed appreciation for the reception and reaffirmed her commitment to ending sexual and gender-based violence across the state.
