The Honourable Minister of Defence, Christopher Gwabin Musa, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting the families of fallen military personnel following the death of Oseni Omoh Braimah, who was killed in active service in Borno State.
General Musa, a retired Army General and Minister of Defence, gave the assurance on Tuesday while receiving Mr. Hassan Braimah, brother of the late senior military officer, at the Ministry of Defence in Abuja.
The late Brigadier General Braimah, an Infantry Officer of the Nigerian Army and Commander of the 29 Task Force Brigade, died in the line of duty at Benisheikh on April 9, 2026, during ongoing military operations against insurgents in the North-East.
He was buried with full military honours at the Maimalari Cantonment Cemetery in Maiduguri on April 15 alongside seven other military personnel who also lost their lives in service to the nation.
During the visit, Hassan Braimah recalled the dedication and patriotism of his late brother, describing him as a committed officer who served the country with courage and loyalty until his death.
He expressed appreciation to the Armed Forces and the Ministry of Defence for standing by the family during their period of mourning and pledged the family’s continued support for the dependants left behind.
Responding, the Defence Minister conveyed the condolences of the Ministry and the Armed Forces of Nigeria to the bereaved family, assuring them that the sacrifices of fallen heroes would never be forgotten.
“The Armed Forces will never abandon the families of those who lay down their lives for this country. We remain committed to providing assistance, care, and direct access to the Ministry whenever needed,” the Minister stated.
General Musa said the Ministry of Defence operates an open-door policy aimed at ensuring continuous engagement and support for families of military personnel who die in active service.
The visit, according to the Ministry, reflects the nation’s appreciation for the sacrifices made by members of the Armed Forces and reinforces the government’s resolve to preserve their legacy through sustained support for their families.
