Emir of Akko Pledges Full Support in Fight Against Gender-Based Violence

The Emir of Akko, Alhaji Umar Muhammadu Atiku, has pledged his full support for the ongoing campaign against Gender Based Violence (GBV) in Gombe State.

The Emir of Akko, Alhaji Umar Muhammadu Atiku, has pledged his full support for the ongoing campaign against Gender Based Violence (GBV) in Gombe State.

He gave the assurance when the sensitisation team from the Office of the Gombe State First Lady visited Akko Local Government Area as part of its statewide awareness drive.

The Emir described GBV as a major societal challenge requiring urgent action and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting every effort aimed at curbing the menace.

Speaking during the event, the wife of the Akko Local Government Chairman, Hajiya Aisha Mohammed Danladi, commended the First Lady’s initiative and urged councillors in the area to throw their weight behind the campaign to ensure its success.

Representing the First Lady, Commissioner for Women Affairs, Miss Asma’u Mohammed Iganus, said the team is visiting all 11 local government areas to inaugurate 15 member GBV committees that will operate down to the ward level. She appealed for the full cooperation of traditional and political leaders for maximum impact.

Also speaking, Chairman of the Gombe State House Committee on Women Affairs, Mr. Gabriel Galadima, and the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Women Affairs, Hajiya Fatima Umar Abubakar, stressed that the fight against GBV is a collective responsibility.

They cautioned that decisive actions would be taken against perpetrators.

Highlights of the event included the presentation of the Child Rights Law to the Emir and the newly inaugurated committee chairman.
