As part of strategies to boost Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), the Executive Chairman of the Gombe State Internal Revenue Service (GIRS), Aisha Adamu FCNA, paid a courtesy visit to the Acting Vice Chancellor of Gombe State University to explore collaborative avenues for enhancing revenue generation towards sustainable development in the state.

In a statement signed by Faruk Mu’azu Gombe,
Head of Corporate Communications indicated that During the meeting, the Executive Chairman highlighted the numerous innovations introduced by GIRS, particularly in data collection and system improvements that now allow for seamless, automated transactions. She emphasized that the Service has eliminated cash transactions, leveraging technology to enhance the payment collection process and ensure transparency.

She further disclosed that GIRS has extended its technological framework to local councils, creating a synergy in revenue collection that strengthens IGR efforts even at the grassroots level.

The visit, according to the Executive Chairman, aimed to appeal to the university leadership for support in achieving a unified and integrated tax system—one that ensures comprehensive, codified tax data. Such a system, she noted, would be self-sustaining and reduce the need for manual operations, while also helping to eliminate the problem of multiple taxation.

“This appeal is aimed at having a systematic process that will drive GIRS’s tax operations and ensure a master plan in revenue-related matters, in the interest of all,” she added.

In response, the Acting Vice Chancellor Prof. Sani Ahmed Yauta, commended the Executive Chairman for the technological innovations implemented at GIRS. He affirmed the university’s readiness to collaborate with the Service, especially given the current global economic challenges and the need for financial prudence by all tiers of government.

The meeting underscored the mutual interest in developing a more effective, technology-driven tax system that supports transparency, accountability, and sustainable development.
