The Kwara Likeminds Political Parties (KLPP), an umbrella body of about twenty-five political parties has faulted the Kwara State chapter of the Inter-party Advisory Committee (IPAC), the umbrella body of registered Political Parties in Nigeria, for allegedly negotiating political decisions on behalf of all parties without the various parties’ consent.
Speaking at the weekend after their meeting where the member parties agreed to set up a steering committee that will pick a consensus Governorship candidate in Kwara, convener of the coalition and Kwara State Chairman of Democratic People’s Party, DPP, Prophet Maxwell Emmanuel, said political parties have the right to work independently to produce consensus candidates as they please, without the consent of IPAC.
While stating that they remain members of IPAC, he however, clarified that IPAC has no binding decision on them and has no right to take decisions without members consent.
On plans to produce a consensus candidate for 2019governorship election in Kwara state, Emmanuel told journalists in Ilorin explained that the committee will come up with modalities to pick consensus candidate through a fair, transparent, all inclusive and credible process.
Parties in the coalition include the DPP, UDP, National Democratic Liberty Party, NDLP, Peoples Progressive Party, PPP, and All Grassroots Alliance, AGA. Some others are People for Democratic Change, PDC, People’s Trust, PT, and Action Democratic Party, ADP, among others.
