1 Mins read

Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, will on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, host leading Nigerian communication scholar, Professor Umaru A. Pate, as guest speaker at its 2nd Faculty of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Lecture Series.

The event, scheduled to hold at the Mini Convocation Arena by 11:00 a.m., is expected to draw academics, media professionals, and students for a robust conversation on one of the most pressing issues in contemporary communication. The lecture is themed “The Post-Truth Paradigm in the Global South: A Critical Appraisal of Media Trust and Credibility amidst Bot-Driven Narratives and Generative AI Challenges in Nigeria.”

Professor Pate, who is the immediate past Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Kashere, is widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s leading voices in media and communication studies. His selection as guest speaker underscores the institution’s deliberate effort to engage globally relevant scholars whose work shapes both academic thought and professional practice. Known for his contributions to development communication, media ethics, and policy discourse, Pate’s presence is expected to elevate the intellectual tone of the lecture while providing critical insights into the evolving challenges of misinformation and artificial intelligence in the Global South.

The choice of speaker also reflects KWASU’s deliberate effort to bring authoritative voices into its academic environment. Under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Shaykh Luqman Jimoh, the university has continued to expand its intellectual footprint through initiatives that connect classroom learning with real-world challenges.

Within the Faculty of ICT, this vision is being actively driven by the Dean, Prof. Isiaka Zubair Aliagan, whose commitment to interdisciplinary engagement is evident in the growing relevance of the faculty’s programmes. The lecture series, now in its second edition, is gradually becoming a platform where technology, communication, and societal issues intersect in meaningful ways.

As anticipation builds for the lecture, there is a shared expectation that the engagement will not only enrich participants intellectually but also reinforce KWASU’s reputation as a university steadily setting standards in teaching, research, and community-oriented scholarship in Nigeria.
