KWSG Takes a Stand Against Climate Change, Empowering Students to Make a Difference

1 Mins read

In a world grappling with the effects of climate change, the Kwara State Government has taken a proactive step to address this global crisis.

In an effort to raise awareness among the younger generation and sensitize the populace about the dangers of deforestation, the government has launched a Climate Change Club in public schools.

In a statement issued by the Press Secretary of the Ministry, Malam Yakub Kamaldeen Aliagan stated that,

“During the launch at Government High School, Adeta, Ilorin, the State Commissioner for Environment, Mallam Shehu Ndanusa Usman, emphasized the importance of understanding climate change and the impact it has on our lives. Illegal deforestation not only harms the environment but also disrupts the delicate balance of ecosystems, leading to a loss of biodiversity and posing risks to health, food security, and overall well-being.”

The Commissioner urged students to be well-informed about climate change and to join forces with the government in combating deforestation, indiscriminate waste disposal, and illegal burning of bushes. He highlighted the need for a clean and healthy environment and emphasized that the collective effort of all citizens is crucial to achieving this goal.

“To ensure the effectiveness of this initiative, the Kwara State Government is committed to empowering the Ministry and its agencies to enforce existing laws that prohibit illegal logging and to sanction those who violate environmental regulations.” It said.

In his remarks, the Principal of Government High School, Adeta, praised Mallam Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq led-government for recognizing the potential of the youth and involving them in governance.

He assured the government of the unwavering support of the Climate Change Club in their mission to curb deforestation and sustain a clean and healthy environment.

The launch of the Climate Change Club was a collaborative effort involving members of the Kwara State Interministerial Committee on Climate Change, representatives from various ministries, environmental health professionals, and non-governmental organizations.

This united approach demonstrates the commitment of the government and other stakeholders to combat climate change and create a sustainable future.

With the launch of the Climate Change Club, Kwara State is setting an example for the rest of the world. By educating and empowering students, they are nurturing a generation of informed and responsible individuals ready to tackle the challenges of climate change head-on. It is a step towards a brighter and greener future for all.
