Labour Party Gombe Disowns Plans for Unauthorized Office Opening

1 Mins read

The Gombe State Executive Committee (EXCO) of the Labour Party has disowned plans by “mischievous elements” to open an unauthorized office of the party in the state on Monday, September 30th, 2024.

In a press statement signed by the Gombe LP State Chairman, Hon. Benjamin Abner Mamman JP, and the State Secretary, Alhaji Abubakar Usman Wilkins, the party leadership stated that they are the only legally recognized EXCO in the state, and their appointment has been duly notified to the relevant authorities, including the police, INEC, and the Department of State Services (DSS).

The statement emphasized that the individuals planning to open the unauthorized LP office in Gombe do not represent the party’s leadership in the state in any way. It warned that their activities are not backed by the party’s constitution and are considered “nefarious” by the recognized EXCO.

The party leadership also reiterated that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) does not have the power to impose leadership on political parties, and that the Labour Party’s national convention held on March 27, 2024, in Nnewi, Anambra State, where the National Working Committee was elected under the leadership of Barrister Julius Abure, has been validated by a federal high court judgment.

The statement urged all well-meaning individuals who wish to join the Labour Party to do so through the right channel and avoid impostors. It also called on the security agencies and the general public to take note of the facts presented and not be misled by the “selfish and narrow-minded political opportunists” behind the unauthorized office opening plan.

The Gombe LP EXCO assured its members and the public that the party’s leadership, from the national to the ward level, is intact, and that congresses are being planned in different states, including Gombe, where the details will be communicated to the members soon.
