NCC Urges Citizens to Protect Nigeria’s Telecom Infrastructure, Report Vandalism

In a bid to safeguard Nigeria’s critical telecommunications infrastructure, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has called on citizens to actively report acts of vandalism against telecom facilities.

The commission emphasized that these infrastructures are national assets essential for the country’s economic growth, security, and overall development.

In a customised SMS through mobile communications NCC_CNII made available to the public stated  “Protect Nigeria’s telecom infrastructure! They are critical national assets. Report vandalism to cniireport@ncc.gov or dial 622. Let’s safeguard our future!”

The NCC has provided dedicated channels for reporting cases of vandalism, theft, or any suspicious activities involving telecom infrastructure. Concerned citizens are encouraged to send reports via email to cniireport@ncc.gov or call the NCC’s toll-free number 622.

Speaking on the importance of telecom infrastructure, NCC highlighted that damage to these facilities disrupts communication services, hampers business operations, and affects emergency response systems.

“Telecom infrastructure plays a crucial role in Nigeria’s digital economy, and any attack on them is a direct threat to national progress,” the official stated.

The commission reiterated its commitment to working with law enforcement agencies to prosecute offenders caught vandalizing telecom assets. It also urged community leaders and stakeholders to collaborate in raising awareness about the dangers and consequences of vandalizing critical infrastructure.

As Nigeria continues to expand its telecommunications reach, ensuring the protection of telecom installations is a shared responsibility. Citizens are therefore encouraged to remain vigilant and report any unlawful activities to help safeguard the nation’s telecom network.
