Lone Female Aspirant Takes on 22 Men for AMAC Chairmanship

In a bold and history-tilting move, Hon. Jennifer Ozioma Nnamudi, the sole female chairmanship aspirant in the upcoming Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) election, has thrown her hat into the ring under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), daring 22 male contenders to a free and fair contest. She vowed to defeat them soundly and emerge as the party’s flagbearer for the February 2026 FCT Council elections.

Female participation in politics within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has historically been limited, with very few women occupying high-level elective positions. In AMAC’s political history, Mrs. Esther Anazodo stands out as the first and only female chairperson whose tenure is still remembered for administrative prudence and developmental strides. This legacy, according to Hon. Nnamudi, serves as both an inspiration and a benchmark for her ambition.

Speaking to journalists shortly after picking her Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja, Hon. Nnamudi, a grassroots mobilizer and seasoned businesswoman, described her entry into the race as a response to a “clarion call” for competent and inclusive governance.

“What a man can do, a woman can do even better,” she said confidently, pledging to bring a fresh, people-oriented agenda to AMAC. “Women are natural managers. Give a woman a house, she’ll make it a home. I intend to make AMAC a model of inclusive governance where youth and family empowerment, healthcare for pregnant women, education, and infrastructure take center stage.”

With 12 of the 22 male aspirants already having picked up nomination forms, Hon. Nnamudi remains undeterred. She expressed confidence that her deep connection with the grassroots, political structure, and experience in community development will give her a competitive edge.

“I am not intimidated by their number. God has designed it that I will face this battle as the only woman, and I believe I will come out victorious. I’m not just in the race to add to the numbers—I am here to win,” she asserted.

If successful, Hon. Nnamudi would become the second woman in AMAC’s history to occupy the council’s top position—an achievement that could further boost female political participation in the FCT and beyond.
