Northeast governors accuse FG, agencies of sidelining region in recruitment

1 Mins read

Governors in Nigeria’s northeast region have accused the Federal government agencies of sidelining its citizens in recruitments.

Chairman of the Northeast Governors’ Forum, Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State, and his colleagues in the region yesterday arrived in Jalingo for a two-day meeting.

The governors from the Northeast on Tuesday met in Taraba State for a meeting to discuss issues affecting their region.

In a communique signed by Zulum, the governors agreed, “that while interacting with the Commissioners of the Federal Character Commission, appreciated their effort at ensuring compliance with the Federal Character principle.”

The Forum, however, “expressed dismay over the shortfall in the number of applicants from the region in the recent recruitment into some Federal Agencies.

“The forum, therefore, resolved to follow up with all the concerned agencies to ensure that the region gets its fair share in the recruitments into the concerned agencies.”

“In its bid to reposition Education in the sub-region, the Forum has received report from the North East Council on Education. It has taken the Councils’ advisory on the improvement of quality and performance of students and teachers screening and training in the region.”

Discussion on how to tackle growing insecurity and harness the agricultural potential in the region to boost its economy topped the agenda of the meeting.
