NSCDC Kwara Command Denies False Report Attributed to Dr. Umar J.G. Mohammed

“The Command views this publication as a case of mistaken identity or deliberate misinformation aimed at creating confusion and tarnishing the reputation of a respected public officer

From Emmanuel Kehinde, Ilorin

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, has debunked a false online publication circulating on social media, which mischievously attributed statements to one “Major General Umar Mohammed,” claiming he served in the Nigerian Army for 35 years and granted an interview to Trust TV where he allegedly criticized military operations.

In a statement issued in Ilorin, the Command clarified that the person referenced in the report, Dr. Umar J.G. Mohammed, is not a retired Major General and has never served in the Nigerian Army. He is, in fact, the current State Commandant of the NSCDC, Kwara State Command.

According to the Command, Dr. Mohammed at no time granted any interview to Trust TV or any other media organization concerning the issues mentioned in the viral publication.

“The Command views this publication as a case of mistaken identity or deliberate misinformation aimed at creating confusion and tarnishing the reputation of a respected public officer,” the statement read.

It further expressed concern that the false story was circulated using the photograph of Dr. Umar J.G. Mohammed, thereby misleading unsuspecting members of the public.

Condemning the act, the Command urged online publishers, bloggers, and social media users to verify information before dissemination. It emphasized that the spread of unverified stories not only misinforms the public but also undermines the integrity of responsible journalism.

Members of the public were advised to disregard the false story and desist from sharing or promoting such misleading content.

The NSCDC Kwara Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting critical national assets and infrastructure, ensuring public safety, and upholding professionalism, integrity, and discipline in service to the nation.

For authentic information, the Command encouraged the public to rely solely on its verified communication channels for updates and official statements.
