NUJ Chairman Commends Governor Inuwa Yahaya for Supporting Journalists’ Healthcare

The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Gombe State Council, Comrade Faruk Muazu Gombe, has commended Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for creating an enabling environment that allows journalists in the state to access medical services and monitor their health status.

Tree planting programme led by the Director General of GMC, Malam Ibrahim Isa, alongside the NUJ chairman, officials of the Agro-Allied Semi Arid Resilience Project (ACReSAL) and members of various NUJ chapels in the state.

The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Gombe State Council, Comrade Faruk Muazu Gombe, has commended Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for creating an enabling environment that allows journalists in the state to access medical services and monitor their health status.

He gave the commendation during a medical outreach and tree planting campaign organised by the NUJ at the Gombe Media Corporation (GMC) as part of activities marking the 2025 NUJ Press Week.

Comrade Faruk noted that although journalists regularly report on public health matters, many often neglect their own wellbeing.

He explained that the outreach was organised to provide members the opportunity to know their health status and embrace healthier lifestyles while urged journalists and the public to undergo regular medical checkups as a preventive measure.

The medical screening, which covered diabetes and hepatitis B and C, was conducted by a team from the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe under Dr. Hannatu Maina, a senior registrar in the Chemical Pathology Department, advised journalists to adhere to medical guidance and take proactive steps to maintain their health and exercise recorded impressive attendance from NUJ members across various chapels.

Providing background information on AMKAMED Pharmacy, Pharmacist technician Mohammed Sani Adams said the pharmacy, located opposite CBN Gombe, offers a range of medical services, including home delivery.

He explained that the goal of the facility is to help people achieve clearer vision and a brighter future.

At a symbolic ceremony to flag off the tree planting campaign at GMC Gombe, the NUJ chairman also called on the public to plant and nurture trees to maturity as part of efforts to protect the environment.

The event featured tree planting led by the Director General of GMC, Malam Ibrahim Isa, alongside the NUJ chairman, officials of the Agro-Allied Semi Arid Resilience Project (ACReSAL) and members of various NUJ chapels in the state.
