The former Deputy National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George has commended the people of Edo State for having spoken loud and clear by voting Governor Godwin Obaseki the incumbent Governor and candidate for the 2020 governorship election in the state, completely rejecting bullion van democracy and godfatherism politics in the state.

George maintained that Edo people had spoken without ambiguity, without equivocal expression. He stressed that they were bold and brave for rejecting the bullion van democracy, pointing out that they stood against outside interlopers.

The former deputy national chairman said that Edo people were firm and committed to the purity of the democratic process, and in the end, their will prevailed. According to him they made their choice in the person of Governor Godwin Obaseki who himself had braved all odds and all the dark scheming and intrigues of undemocratic forces. He stressed Obaseki triumphed over what seemed a great hurdle.

While congratulating Obaseki, the Atona Odua of Yoruba land stated, “I congratulate Governor Godwin Obaseki for this well deserved victory. I congratulate our party managers who pulled through this victory by ensuring that the right things were done at the right time.

“The election was peaceful, fair and just. The security operatives were much alert to their responsibilities. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) too conducted itself in a worthy manner. It was apparently neutral and committed itself to the fairness doctrine which is the hallmark of democracy itself.”

He said that President Buhari had equally lived up to his words when he observed before the election that he would basically ensure that there would be no interference with the democratic process.

The PDP chieftain stressed that with the Edo election, there might yet be a renewal for the Nigerian democracy with Edo State trail blazing decision. He said that as for those who appropriated the treasury of Lagos State as their private coffers, brazenly swaggering in their bullion van democracy, it was obvious that their time was up. .

He said, “Even here in Lagos, there is a dawning realization that the slave-drivers will soon be chased out of town through the ballot box. Lagosians are equally sick and tired of 21 years underdevelopment and massive gutting of their treasury. Enough of the primitive monetized ways of godfatherism.”
