13,574 sanctioned for examination malpractice
National Examinations Council (NECO) has released results of the 2022 Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE Internal).
Making the announcement, yesterday, in Minna, Niger State, NECO Registrar/Chief Executive, Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, said 1,209,703 candidates registered for the test, consisting of 636,327 males, representing 52.60 per cent and 573,376 females (47.39 per cent).
He explained that about 13,574 candidates were sanctioned for malpractice. Wushishi said: “The Council has a long-standing tradition of zero tolerance for malpractice. Thus, it can be noticed that the incidence in 2022 dropped, compared with the figure of 2021.
“Consequent upon the foregoing, four schools were recommended for de-recognition for two years due to their involvement in mass cheating and other unwholesome cases.
“Also, 29 supervisors were blacklisted for various offences ranging from poor supervision, insult to aiding and abetting during the examination.”
He advised candidate to check their results on www.neco gov.ng, imputing their registration numbers on the portal.
The NECO boss expressed satisfaction that conduct of this year’s examination had been satisfactorily adjudged by relevant stakeholders as best in recent years.
He continued: Number of candidates with special needs is 1,031, with the breakdown as follows: Ninety-eight with albinism, 177 with autism, 574 with hearing impairment and 107 visually impaired.
“Number of candidates, who made credit and above in English Language is 889,188, representing 74.89 per cent.
“Number of candidates who made credit and above in Mathematics is 929,140 representing 78.23 per cent.
“Number of candidates, who made five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics, is 727,864, representing 60.74 per cent. When compared to 2021 SSCE (Internal) figures of 878,925 (71.64 per cent), there is a decrease of 10.9 per cent.”
A further breakdown shows: “Number of candidates, who made five credits and above irrespective of English Language and Mathematics is 1,011,457, representing 84.40 per cent. When compared to 2021 SSCE (Internal) figures of 1,153,716 (94.04 per cent), there is a decrease of 9.64 per cent.
“Number of candidates involved in various forms of malpractice in 2022 is 13,594, representing 0.13 per cent, whereas 20,003, representing 1.63 per cent cases, were recorded in 2021.”
Wushihi concluded: “May I also seize the opportunity to announce that the backlog of Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) certificates from 2012 to 2021 will soon be ready for distribution to schools.”
