Oyo PDP Primary – Makinde Emerges Winner, Defeats Gbolarumi with 1040 Votes

The incumbent governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo  has emerged winner of the state People’s Democratic Party ( PDP) governorship primaries after defeating his opponent Mogaji Hazeem Gbolarumi

Out of the accredited 1048 delegates , the governor polled a total of 1040 votes to defeat his rival who had only two votes, while six votes were voided.

Shortly before the commencement of the votes,Gbolarumi complained that his delegates were chased out from the Adamasingba Stadium, Ibadan venue of the exercise.

There had been series of disagreements between the Goverfaction and Gbolarumi, ti the extend that parallel Delegates Conference wer organised throwing uo the two candidates.

The PDP National Secretariat could not resolve the differences before the election.

Announcing the results of the election, the Secretary of the PDP Electoral Committee, Alhaji Abdullahi MaiBasira, who represented his Chairman, Ben Obi  stated that 1,048 delegates were accredited out of a total of 1048 delegates.

Hundreds of party leaders, and supporters gathered at the venue of the election clad in branded PDP vests and cars , while the open ballot boxes were lined infront of the delegates .

Gbolarumi addressed the Delegates claiming that the Party needs to wax stronger inspire of the bickering in the build uo to the Delegates Conference.

In his acceptance speech, Makinde said he was overwhelmed by the support , while appreciating the delegates for believing in him, and the PDP.

He thanked the delegates for trusting in him, adding that trust is like foundation of a building.

” Trust is like a building and for every building to stand it must have a solid foundation, the foundation for trust is truth,” Makinde stated.

The governor further assured the delegates that he would continue to be honest and tell the truth.

He charged all PDP members to continue working for the progress of the party in the state.

He pledged to keep all the promises made to them, adding that since he came into office in 1999, he has kept all the promises.

For example, he mentioned the LAUTECH sole ownership, prioritised security, the Amotekun, the bus terminus edifices,  prompt payment of workers’ salaries , rehabilitation of  Ibadan -Iseyin road, Oyo-Iseyin road, Challenge- Odo Ana Elewe road, and the recently flag off iseyin – Ogbomoso road amongst other projects .

” Yes, you gave us a chance, and we were able to do what we were able to do because you gave us a chance. By the special grace of God , we will continue to work for you because you are our bosses,”  he added.

For his opponent, governor Makinde told Gbolarumi that it is a new beginning in Oyo PDP , saying that he will not disappoint the people even as he declared that come 2023 PDP will be coming up at the centre.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Oyo State, Dr Mutiu Agboke and the INEC Administrative Secretary, Alhaji Abiodun Onigate-Amosun witnessed the conduct of the primaries.

Whether the declaration of Governor Makinde as the winner of the election will finally end the disagreement between the State’s PDP Gladiators is a matter of time.
