The Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Governors’ Forum will meet in Abuja, today, to take a common position on the appointment of the chairman of its convention planning committee.

The 92nd meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the PDP, held last week, had asked for nominations from party organs and caucuses, with regards the chairmanship of the committee and other positions.

Ahead of the party’s 93rd NEC meeting, scheduled to hold tomorrow, the governors will meet today to take final positions. The meeting, it was learnt, will deliberate on which part of the country to zone the position of the national chairman.

Suspended chairman, Uche Secondus, whose tenure officially ends on December 9, 2021, is from the Southern part of the country. “That region is going to retain the position but the zone might be different,” a source confirmed.

On the likely person to be appointed as chairman of the convention, it was gathered that two governors have been nominated from the South South and North East.

Confirming the governors’ meeting, the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, said he had consulted with his colleagues and that it has been agreed that the meeting should hold today.

Tambuwal’s statement, which was signed by the Director General of the Forum, C.I.D. Maduabum, disclosed that the meeting will discuss party matters and strategies to reposition the PDP ahead of the NEC meeting.

The statement added: “The PDP governors re-assured all members, stakeholders and the nation of their commitment, determination and loyalty in the patriotic task of dislodging the failed APC government that has brought nothing but misery and pain to all Nigerians.”
