Police Foil Armed Attack in Anambra, One Suspect Neutralized, Gun Recovered

The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the foiling of an armed attack on Ezinifite Community in Nnewi South Local Government Area in the early hours of Monday, October 27, 2025.

According to the Command, the swift response of a combined security team comprising Police operatives and Agunechamba Vigilante personnel thwarted the assault. The joint team engaged the hoodlums in a fierce gun duel, leading to the neutralization of one suspect, while others fled into nearby bushes with possible gunshot injuries.

A pump-action rifle and the body of the neutralized suspect were recovered from the scene.

The Police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that intelligence and offensive operations are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects in collaboration with tactical units.

Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc, minps, PhD, lauded the vigilance and bravery of the local security team and reassured residents of the Command’s readiness to ensure safety across all communities, especially as the November 8, 2025 governorship election draws near.
