The Rotary Club of Abuja United has officially become a member of Rotary International following the issuance of its Charter Certificate on July 16, 2026, marking a significant milestone in the club’s journey as a humanitarian service organisation in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory.
The charter formally recognizes the club as a duly constituted Rotary club, having fulfilled all the requirements for admission into Rotary International and agreed to abide by the organisation’s Constitution and Bylaws, thereby entitling it to all the rights and privileges of Rotary membership.
The achievement marks the culmination of months of dedication, collaboration and commitment by the club’s charter members, whose efforts have now earned the club a place within Rotary’s global network of service organizations.
The club was officially chartered with 20 members but has already grown its membership to 23, reflecting increasing interest in its humanitarian vision and community service agenda.
Speaking shortly after receiving confirmation of the charter, the Charter President of the Rotary Club of Abuja United, Rotarian Marcel Ezenwa, placed a telephone call to the District Governor of Rotary International District 9127, Rotarian Sikiru Adetola Owonikoko, to express the club’s appreciation for the district’s support and leadership throughout the charter process.
Earlier, the District Governor had conveyed his congratulations to the newly chartered club through its Charter Adviser and Assistant Governor, Rotarian Mariam Abdullahi, who played a pivotal role in mentoring and guiding the club from its formation to its successful admission into Rotary International.
The club commended District Governor Owonikoko for his visionary leadership and encouragement, while also acknowledging the commitment and invaluable guidance provided by Assistant Governor Mariam Abdullahi, describing her contributions as instrumental to the successful completion of the charter process.
With its official recognition, the Rotary Club of Abuja United pledged to advance Rotary’s global mission by implementing impactful humanitarian projects, promoting ethical leadership, strengthening fellowship and supporting sustainable community development across the Federal Capital Territory and beyond.
The club also expressed its readiness to collaborate with other Rotary clubs within District 9127 and across the world in advancing Rotary’s seven areas of focus, including peacebuilding, disease prevention, maternal and child health, basic education and literacy, environmental sustainability, and community economic development.
The club further appreciated its charter members, supporters and well-wishers for their commitment and sacrifices, noting that their unwavering belief in Rotary’s ideals made the historic achievement possible.
The Charter Secretary of the Rotary Club of Abuja United, Rotarian Comrade James Ezema, said the club remains committed to upholding Rotary’s enduring motto, “Service Above Self,” while making meaningful and lasting contributions to humanity through selfless service and community impact.
