Secondus insists he will not resign as PDP chairman

All the 13 governors of the Peoples Democratic (PDP) rose from a six-hours meeting on Monday without categorical pronouncement on the resolution of the crisis in the party.

Sokoto State governor and chairman of the PDP governors forum, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, managed to declared that the meetings would continue today (Tuesday) with other stakeholders like the Board of Trustees and National Assembly caucus.

The decision to meet with the Board of Trustees and others was to carry them along to avoid what might be termed arbitrary decision, it was learnt.

The governors forum subjected the PDP national chairman, Uche Secondus, to serious interrogations that lasted for 40 minutes.

The grilling, it was learnt had to do with series of allegations including misappropriation of party funds, deliberate manipulations party affairs resulting in serious divisions in the organs of the party.

But after the meeting, Secondus simply told journalists that “I can confirm that I will never resign” and avoided other questions.

The governors indecision after the meeting was said to be related to the indictment against Secondus by six members of the NWC.

A report containing those allegations was submitted to the governors’ forum.

Last week, National Youth leader, Sunday Udeh-Okoye alleged that certain levels òf incompetence have been displayed by Secondus.

“Mr. Uche Secondus, the national chairman of the party is incompetent of managing the affairs of this party, he lacks managerial capacity to manage PDP,” Udeh-Okoye said.

“He had made sure that many departments of the party did not function as effectively as it ought to function. Mr. Chairman has nothing to offer to the party only to come here and decieve us.”

Okoye further claimed that “There is a sharp division in our NWC right now, not only me, many more NWC members are more aggrieved than myself.

“Today(Tuesday),I have asked him in our NWC meeting to resign his position as the chairman of this party because he cannot lead this party to victory.”

He also called on governors elected on the platform of the party .

He said: “I am also asking the leaders, the governors, the founding fathers, the youth, the women to rise up to rescue our party from the hand of incompetent leader like Secondus because he is not willing to take us to anywhere. He is just there to make sure that he enriches himself.”
