Hon. Sodiq Adewale Omotayo Speaks on Opportunities and Challenges in Nigeria’s Travel and Tourism Sector
In an insightful conversation that sheds light on the evolving landscape of travel and tourism, Hon. Sodiq Adewale Omotayo, Chief Executive Officer of Hasbunallah Global Travels & Tours, shared his views on the sector’s challenges, opportunities, and future outlook. The interview was conducted by Rashidat Olushola Okunlade, Publisher of BusinessEcho Magazine, a flagship publication under ROTA Media Concepts.
The discussion covered critical issues such as changing consumer behaviors, global disruptions affecting travel, the underutilized potential of tourism in Nigeria, and how innovative services can create a more inclusive and accessible travel experience for Nigerians.
Below are excerpts from the interview:
What are the current challenges in the global travel and tours sector, particularly as they relate to Nigeria?
Nigerian passport holders face a range of challenges in accessing certain countries for education, employment, or leisure travel. The ongoing global crises have significantly impacted the travel sector, and although there are efforts to improve the situation, opportunities remain limited for many travelers.
Has the travel and tourism sector improved under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration?
Yes, there are noticeable improvements. I believe a significant transformation is achievable by 2027. However, increased government support is critical to unlocking Nigeria’s tourism potential. With the right policies and global strategies, the tourism sector can rival the oil industry in revenue generation. It has the capacity to create jobs, boost local economies, and project our rich cultural heritage to the world. President Tinubu has set a goal of generating over $1 trillion in GDP through tourism—an ambitious but attainable target.
What makes Hasbunallah Global Travels & Tours stand out from others? What unique offers do you currently have?
We are passionate about travel and committed to making it accessible. Our services include flight bookings, visa assistance, and a flexible “Pay in Bits” payment option, which enables customers to spread their travel expenses over time. This makes international travel more manageable for many Nigerians.
How smooth are your operations in moving travelers from place to place, especially considering the difficulties with Nigerian passports?
We go the extra mile to ensure our clients enjoy a seamless travel experience. Despite passport-related hurdles, we constantly innovate and find ways to ease travel processes for our customers.
What are your most popular travel destinations at the moment?
In Europe, destinations like France and Australia remain top choices for our clients.
How reliable is Hasbunallah Global Travels & Tours?
I’d rate our reliability at 99%. We have built a strong reputation for delivering quality service, and our clients trust us to handle their travel needs professionally and efficiently.
Do you believe Nigeria is fully tapping into the travel and tours sector compared to other countries?
Nigerians are among the most traveled people globally. We have a strong presence across continents. However, as a nation, we are not fully maximizing the potential of our travel and tourism sector.
Beyond Hasbunallah Global Travels & Tours, are you planning to venture into other areas?
Yes, we are expanding. Hasbunallah is part of a broader business structure, and we are exploring new ventures beyond travel services.
Do you have political ambitions?
Yes, I intend to contest a political seat in 2027 to contribute to the development of my community in Ogun State.
Under which political party?
I’m not ready to disclose that at the moment. I will unveil my political plans in due course.
