The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has congratulated one of his predecessors in office, Prof. Emeritus Is-haq Olanrewaju Oloyede, on his turbaning as Kuliyan Sokoto on Sunday (November 1, 2026) by the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Saad Abubakar.
Prof. Egbewole also congratulated the Sultan on his 20th anniversary on the revered Caliphate throne, and thanked him for finding Prof. Emeritus Oloyede, who administered the University between 2007 and 2012, worthy of appointment into such highly valued traditional office.
The Vice Chancellor noted, in a press statement issued by the University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, that the conferment of the prestigious title on Prof. Emeritus Oloyede, who is also the immediate past Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), is “a well-deserved honour to a rare breed public servant, a detribalised Nigerian bridge builder, and an incorruptible statesman.”
Prof. Egbewole particularly rejoiced with Prof. Emeritus Oloyede, who is also the Secretary-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), saying, “The new chieftaincy title is in recognition of his well-known contributions to the nation’s educational development, service excellence, community service, and humanitarian credentials.”
He further described the erudite Professor of Islamic jurisprudence as “a veritable symbol of renewed hope for national rebirth.”
While wishing Prof. Emeritus Oloyede long and fruitful reign in his new traditional assignment, Prof. Egbewole, who is also the Secretary General of the Association of West Africa Universities (AWAU), said the conferment of the title on him is indicative of the fact that Nigeria is not done with the multi-tasking former JAMB boss yet.
Also congratulating the Sultan on his 20th coronation anniversary, Prof. Egbewole rejoiced with the prominent royal father whose reign so far has symbolised societal peace, religious harmony and national development.
He then wished the Sarkin Muslumi and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) long life in continuous sound health and more fulfilling reign on the stool of the Caliphate.
