
The Nigeria Police Force has announced the assumption of duty of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Okunade Ronke Nurat, fsi, as the 24th Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Maritime Police Command, Force Headquarters Annex, Lagos.
Her deployment to the strategic command follows a posting by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM. She takes over from AIG Chinedu Oko, psc, with a mandate to further strengthen the security of Nigeria’s maritime environment.
AIG Okunade Ronke Nurat, who hails from Ogbomosho North Local Government Area of Oyo State, holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Psychology from the University of Ibadan. She joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1992 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police and received her professional training at the Nigeria Police Academy Annex, Kaduna. She was subsequently commissioned as an Assistant Superintendent of Police and completed her mandatory attachment at the Ondo State Police Command.
With over three decades of service, AIG Okunade has built a distinguished career across various operational, investigative and administrative roles nationwide. Her postings include duties at the Force Provost Office, Force Headquarters Annex, as well as leadership roles in divisional and area commands within the Railway Command, Airport Command and several State Police Commands.
She also served in key senior administrative and investigative positions at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Lagos, and headed specialized units such as the Police Special Fraud Unit, Milverton, Lagos, and General Investigation at the FCID Annex, Lagos, where she served as a Commissioner of Police.
Until her recent appointment, AIG Okunade made history as the first female Commandant and the first AIG to head the Police College, Kaduna. Her tenure there was marked by notable achievements in institutional repositioning and capacity development.
AIG Okunade has attended numerous professional courses, seminars and workshops both within and outside Nigeria. She is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) and is widely respected for her professionalism, integrity and dedication to the core values of the Nigeria Police Force.
Speaking during her assumption of duty, AIG Okunade pledged to work closely with stakeholders, officers and personnel of the Maritime Police Command to enhance maritime security, sustain public confidence and deepen inter-agency collaboration. She assured of purposeful leadership aimed at taking the Command to greater heights.
The Maritime Police Command has formally welcomed AIG Okunade Ronke Nurat, fsi, and expressed confidence that her tenure will be defined by discipline, professionalism and inclusive leadership, while calling on sister agencies and relevant stakeholders to support her administration.
