Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue 2024: Dare Akogun, 14 Others Win Fellowship to Germany

Popular Kwara-based broadcaster, Dare Akogun, and 14 other journalists from different countries have been selected to cover the 10th inspiring dialogue on the Global Energiewende, the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue 2024 in Germany.

Akogun who is a Senior News Editor and Head  Digital Media Unit at Sobi FM Ilorin is also a climate change advocate and a media trainer.

According to the list of fellows published on the organisers website and social media from late February Akogun is the only Nigerian selected to attend, and report on the BETD 24 in person.

He will be joined by 14 others while numerous fellows will cover the conference remotely from their countries.

Other fellows are from India, Brazil, Peru, China, Bulgaria, Italy, South Africa, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Colombia, Canada, Kenya, among others.

According to the organisers the selected climate journalists have emerged with stories to tell and will be in Berlin to cover the BETD24  from 17 March – 23 March 2024.

In his remarks, Akogun said the fellowship is another opportunity to raise awareness about climate actions and negotiations on a global scale through factual and evidence-based reporting.

According to him “This is what SOBI FM is reputed for, and of course the kind of reporting cherished by the organizer of the dialogue which focuses on looking for ways to increase diversification to renewable energy. I’m happy to be associated with this course,” he said.

“In the course of the fellowship, I be happy to report on the discussions and proposed innovative energy solutions to achieve cross-border collaboration, and strengthen my reporting of Energy Transition, climate change effects and environmental issues at large.”

About the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue 

For several years, the Federal Foreign Office, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and the German Renewable Energy Federation (BEE e.V.) have been inviting international journalists to report on the BETD.

This BETD Media Fellowship allows young journalists from around the world to come together in the German capital in order to participate in this exclusive conference, talk to highly placed stakeholders from science, politics, industry and civil society as well as to connect with other BETD Media Fellows from all over the world to strengthen international energy journalism that does not stop at national borders.

The Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue is hosted and supported by the German Federal Government and a joint initiative of German Renewable Energy Federation (BEE), German Solar Association (BSW), German Energy Agency (dena) and eclareon.
