ABBA, Nwangele Local Government Area — It was a blend of solemn reflection and celebration of a fulfilled life as Sir (Dr.) Chidi Onwumere and his family laid their patriarch, Chief Lawrence Uzoatuegwu Onwumere, Chikwadoeze I of Abba, to rest.

The burial ceremony, held on April 8, 2026, in Abba community, attracted a large gathering of family members, in-laws, associates, and well-wishers who converged to honour the legacy of the late elder statesman, widely described as a respected community leader and custodian of tradition.

The event, which was peaceful and well-organised, also drew the presence of prominent political figures from Imo State. Among them were the Deputy Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Amarachi Iwuanyanwu; a former member of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Ugonna Ozuruigbo; and the Majority Leader of the Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chief Kanayo Onyemaechi.

Traditional and community leaders were also in attendance, underscoring the late chief’s influence and standing within his community. Notable among them were the President General of Abba, Hon. Ikenna Anochie, and the traditional ruler of the community, HRH Ndubueze Mmaduabuchukwu.
Speaking at the event, attendees paid glowing tributes to the deceased, describing him as a man of honour, integrity, and deep commitment to the development of Abba community. Many noted that his life embodied service, leadership, and unwavering dedication to family and society.

The ceremony concluded with prayers and final rites, as family members, friends, and associates bade farewell to a patriarch whose legacy, they said, would continue to inspire future generations.
