First Lady’s GBV Sensitisation Campaign Reaches Balanga, Yamaltu Deba

The Gombe State First Lady’s sensitisation and awareness campaign on the prevention of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) has extended to Balanga and Yamaltu Deba Local Government Areas.

The Gombe State First Lady’s sensitisation and awareness campaign on the prevention of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) has extended to Balanga and Yamaltu Deba Local Government Areas.

Addressing women and girls during the outreach, the First Lady, Hajiya Asma’u Inuwa Yahaya represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Asma’u Mohammed Iganus reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to combating GBV and safeguarding the rights of women and children across the state.

As part of the campaign activities, copies of the Child Rights Act were presented to the wives of the Balanga and Yamaltu Deba Local Government Chairmen while additional copies were also distributed to traditional rulers, including the Bala Waja and the Emir of Deba, QS Ahmed Usman and Emir of Yamaltu Alhaji Abubakar Aliyu as well as inaugurated committee

The First Lady’s representative urged them to take decisive measures against perpetrators of gender based violence in their communities.

During visits, the Bala Waja, Alhaji Muhammadu Danjuma Muhammad, Emir of Deba, QS Ahmed Usman and Emir of Yamaltu Alhaji Abubakar Aliyu, commended the First Lady for the initiative and pledged the continued support and cooperation of traditional institutions in the fight against GBV.

In their separate remarks, the wives of the Balanga and Yamaltu Deba Chairmen, Hajiya Balkisu Musa Baraya and Hajiya Hajara Abubakar Difa, described the sensitisation campaign as timely and assured full support toward ending the menace.

Also speaking, the APC State Women Leader, Hajiya Lumbi Abubakar, alongside other stakeholders, lauded the First Lady and the Ministry of Women Affairs for their sustained commitment to tackling GBV.

She further urged parents to prioritise proper child upbringing to build a safer and more secure society.

In each local government visited committee were formed under local government with the hope to expand their activities to ward level to end the menace in the society.
