From Muhammad Abdulganiyy, Ilorin.

Exactly twelve days after Governorship election, the Kwara State Chapter of All Progressive Congress (APC) has suspended a serving senator representing Kwara Central Senatorial District, Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe and one Waheed Piri for allegedly working against the party during the 2023 governorship election in the state.

This was contained in a letter written by the party’s chairman from Ilorin West Local Government Area to the state chairman on Thursday and made available to Time Nigeria through a source.

The letter alleged Senator currently representing Kwara Central of plotting to ensure APC lost in the 2023 elections in the state because of his failure to secure his returning ticket in the party after being defeated by Mallam Saliu Mustapha during the primary.

The statement reads: “With reference to the emergency meeting of the Ogidi Ward exco, elders and stakeholders held on the 28 March, 2023 therein they re-appraised the political journey of the ward and review their performances in just concluded general election among other things before them.

“After through and objective review of their activities, the Exco in consultations with the elders and stakeholders of the ward unanimously agreed to general demand of the people of Ogidi Ward on the immediate indefinite suspension of the duo of Sen. (Dr.) Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe and Alhaji Waheed Piri over obvious anti-party activities and gross abuse of political offices which is in line with Article 21(B) I-V of the party constitution.

“They critically reviewed the actions during the electioneering period of Sen. (Dr) Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe and Alhaji Waheed Piri which the duo mischievously coordinated a forum that worked assiduously against the interest and success of the party specifically with their unpatriotic and dissatisfied members voted against the party during Governorship and House of Assembly elections. This pathetic action aimed to embarrass the party was known to all and sundry even to the party faithful outside Ogidi Ward.

“You will recall that after Sen. Oloriegbe Lost his re-election bid in the primary election, he organised a prayer where he invited all the opposition party leaders (PDP, SDP, NNPP etc) in his family house and told them a lot of things including on way forward to deal with APC by ensuring that the party alsc loss in the general elections. Infact, throughout these Governorship and House of Assembly elections Senator Oloriegbe did not support his APC as a party in the ward with anything rather he distributed money and materials to opposition parties in the ward for their empowerment.

“More so, the constituency office of the Senator coordinated by Alhaji Waheed Piri was used along with a forum for the empowerment of the opposition party to the detriment of our party (APC) in Ogidi Ward, therefore empowering opposition with a view to ensure the defeat of our party in the last general election. In fact Alhaji Waheed Piri who is a Director General to the Senator worked against his Excellency by losing his polling unit to PDP, this was a brazen party sabotage and act of gross abuse of political office which is against the ethics of our Progressive party.

“This suspension notification for duo is necessary because both of them have become moles in our midst working for the opposition party in our ward and the suspension takes effect from 29th March, 2023.

“Henceforth, the concerned and appropriate authorities hereby are informed about the decision of Ogidi Ward. Thanks and please accept the highest esteem regards of teeming Ogidi Ward APC members.

Attached are the signatures of the Executive of the Ogidi Ward, the Party’s Local Government Executives, Elders, and Stakeholders from Ogidi Ward.”
