The Senior District Head of Kwami has reiterated his unwavering support for efforts to combat Gender Based Violence (GBV) within his domain.
He gave the reassurance while receiving the Gombe State First Lady’s GBV sensitisation and enlightenment campaign team at his palace in Malam Sidi adding with commended the First Lady’s delegation, describing their visit as timely and essential in addressing the rising concerns of violence against women and children.
Representing the First Lady, Hajiya Asma’u Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Asma’u Mohammed Iganus, explained that the enlightenment campaign team was established to present copies of the Child Rights Law to Emirs and inaugurate a fifteen man committee that will drive sensitisation efforts down to the ward level.
She emphasised the crucial role of traditional rulers in the successful implementation of the Child Rights Law and in ensuring that perpetrators face appropriate sanctions.
In their remarks, the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Women Affairs, Hajiya Fatima Umar Abubakar, and one of the Ministry’s Director Malam Mohammed Abubakar Kumo, noted that the campaign team is touring all eleven local government areas to create awareness and encourage effective implementation of the Child Rights Law.
The Chairman of the Gombe State House Committee on Women Affairs, Mr. Gabriel Galadima Barden Kaltungo, described traditional leaders as respected authorities whose influence is vital in achieving the campaign’s objectives while called for their full cooperation in reaching the grassroots.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Kwami Local Government Council, Dr. Ahmed Wali Doho, alongside Hajiya Hajara Ahmed Wali, pledged their commitment to intensifying efforts to end GBV in the area.
They commended the First Lady for her dedication and prayed for divine reward for her relentless advocacy.
Highlights of the event included the presentation of the Child Rights Law to the Emirs and the inauguration of the sensitisation committee.
